Tottenham Hotspur hammered Ludogorets 4-0 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night to improve their chances of reaching the knockout stage of this season’s competition.

Jose Mourinho made several chances to his regular starting XI for the competition, which included Joe Hart, Japhet Tanganga, Dele Alli, Lucus Moura and Carlos Vinicius all starting for the English Premier League leaders.

It was the latter who opened the scoring after quarter-of-an-hour with his first goal since joining from Benfica in the summer. The Brazilian was played in one-on-one by Alli, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way with a composed finish.

Tottenham were dominant from start to finish, seeing 61% of the possession and firing in 24 shots without facing a single one.

Ben Davies had hit the outside of the post shortly before Carlos Vinicius grabbed his second before half-time. Tanguy Ndombele’s long range effort was only parried by Ludogorets goalkeeper Plamen Iliev before an unselfish Alli cut the ball back to the Brazilian to tap into an empty net.

Gareth Bale had been denied from close range before Harry Winks’ overhit long ball from the touchline managed to beat Iliev and go in off the underside of the bar from 50 yards out.

Vinicious teed up Lucas Moura to make it 4-0 in the final 20 minutes.

Spurs are level on points with Antwerp at the top of Group J and can book their place in the knockout stages by avoiding defeat away to LASK in their next match, on Thursday 3 December.
