Highlights: Valladolid 0-1 Real Madrid

By on 26th January 2020

Nacho scored the only goal at the Estadio José Zorrilla on Sunday night as Real Madrid moved three points ahead of Barcelona at the top of Spain’s La Liga.

Real Valladolid are now winless in their last eight league games since a 3-0 win at home to Mallorca at the start of November.

Sergio’s side did continue to look stern in defence, with Nacho’s goal just the 24th they have conceded this season. However, they caused very little threat to Thibaut Courtois’ goal aside from Sergi Guardiola’s strike in the final three minutes that was ruled out for offside.

Real Madrid’s Casemiro had a goal ruled out for offside via VAR in the first half. The Brazilian headed home an excellent free kick from Toni Kroos but had narrowly timed his run too early. Casemiro had scored both goals in the 2-1 win over Sevilla last weekend.

Zinedine Zidane was without both Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale with ankle injuries and will be relieved to have come away with three points from this game. They have taken advantage of Barcelona’s 2-0 loss at Valencia on Saturday, whilst Atletico Madrid were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Leganes earlier on Sunday.
