Highlights: Rennes 2-1 PSG
In a repeat of April’s Coupe de France final, Rennes surprised Paris Saint-Germain with a shock victory in the second Ligue 1 game of the season.
Julien Stephan’s side won the cup final on penalties at the Stade de France four months ago, but were winners on their home patch despite falling behind on Sunday.
Edinson Cavani had given PSG the lead after 36 minutes and most fans and pundits would have expected the defending champions to go on and claim the three points from there. Thomas Tuchel’s side had started the season with a 3-0 victory over Nimes last weekend.
But Rennes were in fighting spirit at Roazhon Park on Sunday evening as goals either side of half-time from M’Baye Niang (44′) and Romain Del Castillo (48′) helped Les Rennais on their way to their second victory of the season.
PSG will be looking to bounce back next Sunday when they host Toulouse at the Parc des Princes.
