Highlights: Celta 2-0 Barcelona

Newly-crowned Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona went down 2-0 at Celta Vigo on Saturday as Ernesto Valverde rested his first team with Tuesday night’s Champions League semi-final second leg at Liverpool in mind.

The Catalan club have a 3-0 aggregate lead from first leg ahead of their trip to England but the head coach wasn’t take any chances at Celta this weekend.

Jasper Cillesen was handed his first league game of the season as Marc-Andre ter Stegen was rested between the posts, whilst youngsters Moussa Wague, Jean-Clair Todibo and Riqui Puig made just their second start of the campaign.

Maxi Gomez opened the scoring for Celta Vigo midway through the second half before Iago Aspas scored from the penalty spot three minutes from time after a VAR review had awarded the hosts the spot kick.

Fran Escriba’s side move up to 14th place and close to securing their place in next season’s La Liga.
