Highlights: Real Sociedad 0-0 Real Madrid

Real Madrid made a poor start of their Spanish La Liga title defence with a 0-0 draw away to Real Sociedad on Sunday night.

Karim Benzema missed the best opportunity of for Real Madrid. The French striker received the ball in a one-on-one position from 10 yards out, went around goalkeeper Alex Remiro but dragged his effort wide.

Thibaut Courtois was to thank for keeping the score 0-0 going into the break when he denied Alexander Isak one-on-one with an outstretched leg.

That would be Real Sociedad’s only shot on target all game.

Dani Carvajal, Benzema and Toni Kroos both forced saved out of Remiro in the second half but neither were too strenuous.

Sociedad head coach Imanol Alguacil handed a debut to David Silva in the second half.

Real Madrid saw 68% of the possession and had 16 attempts on goal but never looked like picking up all three points in this game.

Martin Odegaard started in between Brazilian duo Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo in a very young attacking trio behind Karim Benzema in Real Madrid’s attack.

Head coach Zinedine Zidane also introduced 20-year-old Marvin Park and 18-year-old Sergio Arribas in the second half.
