Liverpool beat 10-man Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to give Jurgen Klopp’s side a 100% winning record after two games.

The key incident came at the end of a first half of few chances when Andreas Christensen hauled down Sadio Mane to deny the Liverpool forward a one-on-one.

Christensen was originally showed a yellow card, but upon further inspection from VAR, the decision was upgraded to a red by referee Paul Tierney.

It took Liverpool just five minutes into the second half to take advantage of the extra man when Roberto Firmino’s perfectly weight cross was headed home by Sadio Mane.

The Senegalese forward had his second less than five minutes later when Kepa Arrizabalaga put it on a plate to the Liverpool forward.

Chelsea were handed a lifeline when Thiago Alcanta knocked Timo Werner over inside the penalty area. However, the usually reliable Jorginho from the spot saw his effort saved by Alisson.

Liverpool are next in Premier League action at home to Arsenal on Monday 28 September, whilst Frank Lampard’s side travel to pointless West Bromwich Albion next Saturday.
