Highlights: PSG 0-1 Marseille

Paris Saint-Germain have suffered back-to-back defeats to start the defence of their Ligue 1 title in 2020-21.

Thomas Tuchel was able to welcome back Neymar and Angel Di Maria to his starting lineup in Le Classique in Sunday night following an outbreak of coronavirus in the camp.

However, neither would be a huge influence in the game as Marseille beat their rivals for the first time in nearly nine years.

The visitors had Steve Mandanda to thank in the opening two minutes for pulling off a world class save to deny Marco Verratti’s header from close range.

Neymar headed a good chance over the bar from six yards.

The only goal of the game came after half hour when Dimitri Payet’s free kick from deep found Florian Thauvin to volley home from close range.

Mandanda denied Pedro Sarabia and Neymar with his feet in the second half but otherwise the 35-year-old wasn’t too busy at the Parc des Prince.

The game had been heating up in the second half before it exploded in stoppage time. Dario Benedetto fouled Parades off the ball and a scuffle ensued.

Layvin Kurzawa and Jordan Amavi exchanged kicks before being shown the red card, as were Benedetto and Parades for their involvement.

Referee Jerome Brisard then consulted VAR before showing Neymar a red card for a slap on the back of the head of Alvaro Gonzalez.

Further sanctions could be handed out by the French FA in the coming weeks, whilst Neymar took to Twitter after the game citing racism for his lashing out.
