RB Leipzig may be out of the title running in the 2019-20 Bundesliga season as they restarted the campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to SC Freiburg on Saturday; their fifth draw in seven games.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side are now four points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who are away to Union Berlin on Sunday.
The hosts were on top of the game for the opening half hour, as expected, but didn’t have their shooting boots on as they continued to fire efforts narrowly off target.
They were made to pay 10 minutes before half-time when Vincenzo Grifo’s low corner was flicked home by Manuel Gulde as RB Leipzig’s defence fell asleep.
Ademola Lookman missed a great opportunity to equalise 10 minutes into the second half when the English forward scuffed wide from six yards. On the hour Kevin Kampl saw a good chance blocked before the ball broke to Yussuf Poulsen moments later only for the Dane to head wide.
The pressure finally paid off 13 minutes from time when Poulsen produced a good header from a deep cross to equalise for RB Leipzig. However, the former league leaders failed to kick on and find a winner, settling for a point.
