Erling Braat Haaland came off the bench to score a hat-trick as Borussia Dortmund overturned a 1-3 second half deficit to win 5-3 on Saturday.

FC Augsburg got in behind Lukasz Piszczek to create a tap in for Florian Niederlechner int he 34th minute. The home side would take that lead into the half-time break and double it just 19 seconds after the restart with a stunning 30-yard strike from Marco Richter.

The visitors responded within four minutes when Julian Brandt shot on the spin, finding the back of the net via the near post. But Borussia Dortmund’s defence let them down once again. Piszczek was beaten too easily and Niederlechner had another tap in, a carbon copy of the first for the striker’s 10th goal of the season. 3-1 in the 56th minute. Time to introduce Haaland.

The €22.5 million January signing made an impact inside four minutes when he latched onto Axel Witsel’s through ball to fire first time across goal and in off the far post to restore Borussia Dortmund’s deficit.

Two minutes later and Lucien Favre’s side were level. Jadon Sancho latched onto a long pass over the top, rounded goalkeeper Tomas Koubek and rolled the ball into an empty net. 3-3.

Nine minutes later and Thorgan Hazard was the next Dortmund player to beat Augsburg’s high line. The Belgian too dribbled past Koubek, but with a defender on the goalline, squared the ball to Haaland for a tap in.

Erling Haaland completed his hat-trick 10 minutes from time when he was played in one-on-one by Marco Reus before coolly slotting past the Augburg goalkeeper.
