Highlights: Southampton 1-2 Liverpool

Liverpool made it two wins from two to start their 2019-20 Premier League campaign as they held on to a 2-1 victory at Southampton on Saturday.
It wasn’t until first half stoppage time that the Champions League holders broke the deadlock at St Mary’s, with Sadio Mane scoring against his former club. The Senegalese international was making his first Premier League start of the season and fired a marvelous effort across goal into Angus Gunn’s far corner.
Jurgen Klopp’s side didn’t have it all their own way. Adrian had made an excellent save to deny a Maya Yoshida header from four yards out at 0-0 and Che Adams headed over from six yards out.
Roberto Firmino had scuffed an effort narrowly wide on the counter-attack before the Brazilian doubled the visitors’ lead with a fine, low finish from 18 yards.
The game appeared to be put to bed until Adrian inexplicably passed the ball to Southampton striker Danny Ings to reduced the deficit seven minutes from time. The Spaniard was starting in place of the injured Alisson.
Former Liverpool striker Ings had a glorious opportunity to snatch a point for the Saints in stoppage time but scuffed an unmarked effort wide from five yards.
