Highlights: PSG 3-0 Nimes
Paris Saintt-Germain made a comfortable start in defence of their Ligue 1 title with a 3-0 thrashing of Nimes at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.
The French giants did it without Neymar, who appears to be heading back to Barcelona between now and the end of the summer transfer window at the end of the month.
Edinson Cavani fired Thomas Tuchel’s side in front from the penalty spot midway through the first half before Kylian Mbappe put the game to bed 10 minutes into the second half. Angel Di Maria added the final goal to match Lyon’s scoreline on Friday night to top the French top flight at the end of matchday 1.
PSG won the title with an astonishing 16-point cushion last season and many expect them to do similar again this term, even without Neymar.
Paris Saint-Germain strengthened their side over the summer with the signings of midfielers Idrissa Gueye (Everton), Pablo Sarabia (Sevilla) and Ander Herrera (Manchester United), as well as centre-back Abdou Diallo.
However, they did see Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Adrien Rabiot (Juventus) and Dani Alves (Sao Paolo) all leave on free transfers. They also sold Giovani Lo Celso (Real Betis), Moussa Diaby (Bayer Leverkusen) and Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig) among others.
