Highlights: Burnley 3-0 Southampton
Burnley made an emphatic start to the 2019-20 Premier League season with a 3-0 thrashing of Southampton at Turf Moor on Saturday.
All three of the Clarets’ goals came during a 12-minute spell in the second half, with striker Ashley Barnes opening the scoring on 63 minutes with Burnley’s first shot on target of the match.
Erik Pieters had provided the cross for Barnes’ opener and the Dutch left-back provided the pass to the striker to double Burnley’s lead only eight minutes later.
Midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson added a third from a tight angle.
Southampton had made a positive start to the game but the stats at the end of the game read only three shots on target as £15 million summer signing Che Adams failed to set the game alight with Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond in attack.
The Saints host Champions League holders Liverpool next weekend whilst Burnley travel to Arsenal.
