Highlights: Portugal 1-0 Netherlands

Portugal became the inaugural winners of the UEFA Nations League with a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in Sunday’s final at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto.

Valencia’s Goncalo Guedes fired home the game’s only goal on the hour mark as Fernando Santos’ side were deserved winners.

The hosts of the tournament fired seven shots on target on Jasper Cillessen’s goal, compared to the Dutch who produced just one shot on target during the 90 minutes.

This victory saw Portugal claim their second trophy in three years after beating France 1-0 after extra-time in the Euro 2016 final. Former Greece manager Fernando Santos has shown his tactical nous during these two tournaments, though was eliminated in the round of 16 at last summer’s World Cup.

Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk kept superstar Cristiano Ronaldo quiet for most of the game. But the 34-year-old had talented teammates to help him out in attack, as Goncalo Guedes played a one-two with Bernardo Silva before firing low into Cillessen’s bottom corner from 18 yards.
