Tottenham Hotspur came from 0-2 down at half-time at the Amsterdam ArenA on Wednesday night to book their place in the 2019 Champions League final.

A remarkable 26 hours of action in the Champions League as Mauricio Pochettino’s side came from 0-3 down on aggregate with 45 minutes to set up a tie against Liverpool in Madrid on Saturday 1 June.

Ajax took the lead inside five minutes as Kieran Trippier let Matthijs de Ligt go from a corner and the 19-year-old captain headed home for the Dutch Eredivisie league leaders. Hugo Lloris had made an excellent save to deny Hakim Ziyech that went out for the corner. Heung-Min Son hit the post almost immediately after for the visitors.

The tie looked to be over when Ziyech doubled the Amsterdam club’s lead on the night with a first time effort into the far post from 10 yards on 35 minutes after Dusan Tadic picked out his unmarked teammate.

10 minutes into the second half and Lucas Moura gave his side a lifeline before Andre Onana spilled the ball four minutes later in the build up to Moura’s equaliser. The Ajax goalkeeper had only made a stunning save to deny Fernando Llorente from two yards out seconds before.

With four minutes to go, Jan Vertonghen headed a corner against the crossbar and saw his rebound cleared off the line.

Lucas Moura saved the incredible comeback until the sixth minute of stoppage time when he scored Tottenham’s third on the night to book a place in their first-ever Champions League final. The Brazilian finished with his left foot after Fernando Llorente out-muscled Matthijs de Ligt and Dele Alli poked the ball through to Moura who beat de Ligt to the ball to poke into the corner.
