Highlights: Swansea 1-1 Derby

By on 2nd May 2019

Derby County moved a point closer to qualifying for this season’s Championship playoffs with a 1-1 draw at Swansea City on Wednesday night.

This was Frank Lampard’s side’s game in hand on their fellow promotion rivals having been postponed earlier in the season due to FA Cup commitments.

A trip to Wales certainly wouldn’t have done his side any favours in terms of fatigue, as they have to face West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, and should they wrap up sixth position, be back in action for the first leg a few days’ later.

Richard Keogh’s looping header across goal and in off the post gave the visitors the lead midway through the first half. The Rams were well on top of this point before Harry Wilson saw his goalbound effort tipped over the bar before half-time.

The Swans hitback midway through the second half as Wayne Routledge bundled home from on the goalline after Kelle Roos had parried an effort onto the inside of the post.

Both sides came close to finding a winner but ultimately settled for a point. The draw leaves Derby in sixth place, one point ahead of Middlesbrough but with the much tougher fixture on the final day of the season, this Sunday.
