Highlights: Arsenal 3-1 Valencia

Arsenal came from behind to beat Valencia 3-1 at the Emirates in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.

The English Premier League side dominated possession and territory in the opening 10 minutes, without testing Neto in the Valencia goal. Then, against the run of play, the La Liga side took the lead through Mouctar Diakhaby’s close-range header following a poorly defended corner.

Some nice work from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set up Alexandre Lacazette to roll the ball into an unguarded net for the Gunners’ equaliser on 18 minutes before the Frenchman added a second less than 10 minutes later with a close range header that narrowly crossed the goalline.

Arsenal created more of the chances as the game went on and gave themselves some breathing space ahead of next week’s second leg when Aubameyang volleyed in from close range from a deep cross to the back post.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is looking to life the trophy for a fourth time having previously won it in three consecutive seasons with Sevilla.
