Highlights: Rio Ave 2-2 FC Porto

FC Porto may have handed the Portuguese Primeira Liga title to rivals Benfica as they blew a late 2-0 lead to draw at Rio Ave on Friday night.

Sergio Conceicao’s side looked well on course to take all three points away from the Estadio dos Arcos as they raced into a 2-0 lead midway through the first half but the draw puts them one point above the Super Eagles whose game in hand is against  Sporting Braga on Sunday.

Yacini Brahimi had given FC Porto the lead on 18 minutes with a free header inside the six-yard box as the Rio Ave central defence simply disappeared. Moussa Marega doubled the lead less than five minutes later as he smashed home down the middle of the goal after the hosts failed to clear a long throw-in.

However, Porto failed to add to their lead and were made to pay in the final 10 minutes, first when Nuno Santos pulled one back on 84 minutes as he dinked the ball over the onrushing Iker Casillas. Conceicao’s side simply never reset themselves as Ronan Jeronimo stunned the division with a 90th minute equaliser with a deflected effort from the edge of the penalty area.

There was still time for Rio Ave’s Nikola Jambor to receive a straight red card for a high boot on the edge of his own penalty area but it didn’t affect the result.
