Highlights: Willem II 0-3 PSV Eindhoven

By on 26th April 2019

PSV Eindhoven moved level on points again with Ajax at the top of the Dutch Eredivisie following a comfortable 3-0 win at Willem II on Thursday evening.

Young striker Donyell Malen opened the deadlock on half hour as he skipped past two defenders before powerfully tucking the ball under Michael Woud to give PSV the lead.

Six minutes later and Michal Sadilek’s whipped free kick missed everyone before bouncing into the net. Luuk de Jong tried claiming the goal but replays showed the Eredivisie’s leading goalscorer hadn’t made any contact with the ball.

20 minutes into the second half Steven Bergwijn played a one-two with Malen to give himself an empty goal to tap into and extend the visitors’ lead to 3-0.

This result puts PSV level on points with Ajax at the top of the table but Mark van Bommel’s side are 10 goals behind in the goal difference column that is separating the two sides with only two games to go. Eindhoven ideally need Ajax to drop points in either of their final fixtures – at home to Utrecht or away to De Graafschap, where they finally lost the league title on the final day of the 2015-16 campaign under Frank de Boer.
