Highlights: Ajax 4-2 Vitesse

Ajax are one step closer to the 2018-19 Dutch Eredivisie title following a 4-2 win at home to Vitesse on Tuesday night.

The Champions League semi-finalists now lead PSV Eindhoven by three points with Mark van Bommel’s side not playing until Thursday, with Ajax only having two games left to play. They have a +13 better goal difference on their title rivals.

It wasn’t all plain sailing at the Amsterdam ArenA on Tuesday as the hosts had to wait until the 41st minute to take the lead. It was a nice goal from Hakim Ziyech too as he span off his defender inside the six-yard box to poke home Dusan Tadic’s inswinging cross.

Tadic doubled Ajax’s lead nine minutes into the second half with his eighth converted penalty of the season after Matthijs de Ligt was hauled down inside the box. Four minutes later and de Ligt game the hosts an unassailable 3-0 lead.

Shortly after, Ziyech had his second of the game overturned by VAR for offside before Vitesse pulled one back through Navarone Foor midway through the second half. In the final 10 minutes, Tadic scored his second spot kick of the game and 24th Eredivisie goal of the season – second only to Luuk de Jong, and Oussama Darfalou scored a consolation for the visitors.
