Highlights: Real Madrid 3-0 Athletic Bilbao
Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid eased to a 3-0 victory against seventh-placed Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
The French striker has now scored the last eight goals for Zinedine Zidane’s side.
Benzema headed in the first two before chipping in a late third after keeper Iago Herrerin had rushed out of his goal. The first came shortly after the restart following a Marco Asensio cross before the second came from a corner 15 minutes from time.
Despite the scoreline, it was game in which Real struggled to break down the Athletic defence for large period, producing just four shots on target in all.
At the other end, Real Madrid keep Keylor Navas denied Raul Garcia and then Inaki Williams with superb reflexes. The manager’s son, Luca Zidane, was among the substitutes.
Real Madrid remain third in La Liga; four points behind city rivals Atletico, who have 68 points. Barcelona are closing on their 26th title.
