Highlights: Barcelona 3-0 Man Utd

A Lionel Messi masterclass and a David de Gea howler helped Barcelona cruise to the semi-finals of this season’s Champions League at the expense of Manchester United.

The English Premier League side had the better of the opening 10 minutes, with Paul Pogba hitting the crossbar and Marcus Rashford slipping when in a good position.

However, the game seemed to turn after a penalty awarded to Barcelona was overturned by VAR. The Spanish giants simply dominated the final 80 minutes.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring with a 20-yard curler shortly after and made it 2-0 inside 20 minutes with another effort from outside the penalty area that went through the arms of United goalkeeper de Gea.

Philippe Coutinho concluded the rout in the second half with a 25-yard curler into the top corner. United’s shot stopper moved from Atletico Madrid to the Premier League in 2011 with a reputation for conceding goals from outside the box in his homeland.

Barcelona join Ajax in the final four of this season’s competition with Liverpool/FC Porto and Tottenham Hotspur/Manchester City looking to join them.
