Highlights: Athletic Club 3-2 Rayo Vallecano
Rayo Vallecano have been left starring relegation in the face following their 3-2 defeat at Athletic Club on Sunday.
Inaki Williams gave the hosts the lead inside two minutes before Alex Moreno equalised for the visitors on the stroke of half-time.
Williams added his second five minutes after the break before Luis Advincula’s dismissal two minutes stacked the odds against Rayo making a comeback.
Mario Suarez did have a goal ruled out by VAR on 65 minutes before Athletic appeared to put the game to bed when Raul Garcia made it 3-1 seven minutes later.
The Madrid-based club did score a consolation through Raul de Tomas five minutes from time. The striker, on loan from Real Madrid, now has 14 goals in 29 La Liga appearances for the struggling side.
Defeat has left Rayo Vallecano five points from safety with only six games to go. Paco Jemez’s side have only picked up four points from their 11 fixtures since the start of February.
