Ajax extended their lead over PSV Eindhoven to three points at the top of the Eredivisie on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 6-2 thrashing of Excelsior at the Amsterdam ArenA.

The hosts never looked back after they took the lead through 35-year-old Klaas-Jan Huntelaar on 10 minutes, even though it wasn’t until the 37th minute that they doubled their lead, through Dusan Tadic.

Huntelaar added his second of the game just three minutes later before former Ajax forward Mounir El Hamdaoui almost immediately, seeing the hosts go in at the break with a 3-1 lead.

Tadic scored his second of the game from the penalty spot on the hour before former Netherlands international Huntelaar completed his hat-trick five minutes later. Kasper Dolberg added a sixth in the final 15 minutes before Jeffry Fortes grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.

PSV’s game in hand is at home to struggling De Graafschap on Sunday.
