Highlights: Ajax 1-1 Juventus

By on 9th April 2019

Ajax and  Juventus played out the only draw in the first leg of this season’s Champions League finals as goals either side of half-time saw the game end 1-1 at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s fifth goal of the campaign saw the Italian runaway Serie A leaders take the lead at the very end of the first half.

The Dutch giants equalised in the opening minute of the second half through a fine strike across goal from David Neres as neither side could produce a winner afterwards.

It leaves the second leg in the balance with Juventus playing host on Wednesday 17 April. Massimiliano Allegri’s side will remain the heavy favourites in Italy with the ability to rest their first team over the weekend as they have virtually secured another Scudetto title already.

Ajax are neck-and-neck with PSV Eindhoven at the top of the Dutch Eredivisie so manager Erik ten Hag may not want to risk resting too many players in their home league game against Excelsior on Saturday.
