By on 7th April 2019

Ajax have returned back to the top of the Eredivisie with a comfortable 4-1 win away to in-form Willem II on Saturday.

The result leaves Erik ten Hag’s side one point ahead of rivals PSV Eindhoven, who are in action at Vitesse on Sunday.

Donny van de Beek opened the scoring for the visitors on 14 minutes before they were pegged back by Alexander Isak’s penalty – the young Swede’s fourth penalty in two games.

A Freek Heerkens own goal five minutes before half-time restored Ajax’s lead and this time they would not look back. Joel Veltman made it 3-1 early in the second half before Hakim Ziyech completed the scoring 20 minutes from time.

The 4-1 victory leaves Ajax a point ahead of PSV, who have a game in hand. Ajax are back in action on Tuesday when they host Juventus at the Amsterdam Arena in the first leg of their Champions League campaign.
