Highlights: Vitesse 3-3 PSV

By on 7th April 2019

PSV Eindhoven dropped points for a second successive away game to hand the advantage over to Ajax in the Eredivisie title race following a 3-3 draw at Vitesse this afternoon.

Mark van Bommel’s side came back three times but could only manage a draw at the GelreDome, leaving them behind Ajax on goal difference after their rivals were 4-1 winners at Willem II on Saturday.

Thulani Serero opened the scoring for the hosts on 13 minutes and it would not be until five minutes from half-time that last season’s champions equalised, through Hirving Lozano, from the penalty spot.

Vitesse retook the lead on the hour mark through Real Madrid loanee Martin Ødegaard before Luuk de Jong restored the parity 10 minutes later.

Former PSV striker Tim Matavz gave Vitesse the lead for the third time but the home side were denied all three points when Lozano converted a second spot-kick in the 90th minute. Van Bommel’s side failed to score a fourth and winning goal that they required to go back top of the table.

Only one week ago did PSV have a five-point lead at the top of the table, before they were beaten 3-1 at 10-man Ajax last weekend. Sunday’s results now leave them requiring Ajax to drop points in the final five games of the season if they are to maintain their championship.
