Paris Saint-Germain handed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his first defeat as Manchester United manager as the French Ligue 1 runaway leaders were 2-0 victors at Old Trafford in the first leg of their Champions League second round tie on Tuesday night.

Thomas Tuchel’s side dominated possession and territory but did not take the lead until Presnel Kimpembe side-footed home an Angel Di Maria corner in the 53rd minute to give the visitors the lead.

PSG outclassed their English opposition and deservedly went 2-0 ahead through Kylian Mbappe on the hour.

Manchester United had won 10 out of 11 games under interim manager Solskjaer, but looked far inferior on home soil against some of the best players in the world in Europe’s elite club cup competition.

The Red Devils were hampered by first half injuries to both wingers, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, but PSG themselves were without injured Brazilian superstar Neymar and striker Edinson Cavani.

United’s hopes of turning the tie around in the second leg in Paris in three weeks’ time were hit with a further blow when the anonymous Paul Pogba was sent off for a second yellow card in the final minute.
