Paris Saint-Germain claimed their first points in the Champions League this season with a convincing 6-1 thrashing of Red Star Belgrade at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

Neymar helped himself to a hat-trick, including the first two goals, in the 20th and 22nd minutes respectively, the first a 25-yard free kick into the bottom left corner. The Brazilian’s third came in the 81st minute to complete the scoring. In the process, he became the 10th player to score Champions League hat-tricks for multiple clubs.

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani made it 3-0 with a deflected effort and Angel Di Maria flicked home Thomas Meuner’s cross for PSG’s fourth before half-time.

Kylian Mbappe scored 20 minutes from time before Red Star scored their consolation.

PSG began this season’s tournament with a 3-2 defeat at Liverpool. The French champions will have back-to-back games against Napoli next, with the first meeting at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday 24 October.
